With voter turnouts at an all time low, and levels of social capital in decline, Canadian democracy may be in jeopardy. Focussing on Nova Scotia high schools, this thesis explores the existing literature surrounding the topic of political education, the current state of political education in high schools, as well as how realistic the implementation of mandatory political education would be. Ultimately, this thesis argues that Nova Scotia should implement mandatory courses in political education.
