Though the history of the Canadian Military Engineers began in the 1600s, the primary focus of this thesis will be on the last hundred years of this often over-looked corps of soldiers and where their place is in military history today. There have been many changes in this branch of the Canadian Military throughout the past century and it is the object of this thesis to determine what those changes have been and what it means for the unit as it enters the next century of training , peacekeeping, and combat. As the century unfolded before the eyes of the nation , this branch of Canada's Armed Forces proved itself to be indispensable in both combat situations during times of conflict as well as an effective peacekeeping unit when the goals and objectives of the Canadian military shifted.
