The World Wide Web has become a virtual world beyond our computer screen that occupies much of our time. Although we know how this virtual space can be used, we do not know what it looks like. In this thesis, we present the first iPad application to visualize the distribution of publicly accessible web servers across the IP address space. The application is comprised of three sub-systems: database, web service and iPad App. The database is stored on an Acadia University server, and the web service is a connecting layer between the database and the iPad App. Due to the size of the Web, we were faced with significant problems during the implementation of this project. The main issue was the size of the full resolution map, which cannot be displayed on a standard computer screen. To address this issue, we first reduced the resolution of the graph by mapping multiple adjacent IP addresses to a single pixel. Then, we designed three level views in the iPad App that represent different sizes of the map of the Web.
