This thesis studies the relationships between .com and .net domain names and their IP Addresses. These domain names represent 50% of all the domain names on the web. The .com and .net domain names were obtained from VeriSign. Note that VeriSign provides domain names without their IP Addresses. Various methods of collecting IP Addresses of domain names are discussed. The chosen method is implemented, and the results are stored in a domain name database and then analyzed. The relationships between domain names and associated IP Addresses are studied. The IP Addresses in the domain name database are compared to the IP Addresses of a recent Web Census to determine if the Web Census missed any servers. A sample of 200 IP Addresses of missing web servers from the Web Census database is randomly chosen and browsed manually to determine the reasons for their absence. The error rate of the Web Census database is then estimated.
